So we saw what all of you are capable of with our recent Pinterest contest -- and now that we know how talented and inspired all of you are, we need your help! We recently completed a giveaway where we asked all of you to create moodboards based around one of the themes of our SS12 collections. The submissions were so much more than we expected that instead of just having one winner we had to include two runner-ups as well. You are all so in-tune, creative and brilliant that we want to include you in the design process for our Spring 2013 collection. The wacky world of retail always has designers working a year in advance, which means that we are now in the process of designing our Spring//Summer 2013 collection. We've decided on the theme and it's going to be an extension of our upcoming AW12 collection: ELECTRIC WITCHES. Drawing on Culture Club & Boy George, '90s raving culture and Victorian detailing, the collection is dark and heavy but employs serious punches of neon. It's post-modern with a Victorian edge -- think Fever Ray, Buffalo Shoes, ornate floral headdresses and industrial warehouse raves. We played with neutral colorways and featured electric blues and oxblood highlighted with gold and silver accents. We used new finishing details like inversed cross charms, metal toe caps, elaborate heel contructions, brass Victorian lions, small silver studs and velvet piping. One of our favorite styles, the Esi brogue, features lucite block inserts in the heel -- the body of the shoe is available in deep red and black suede, while the lucite is red and yellow respectively. This style is most representative of the collection's theme: dark and moody while still displaying bright, playful elements. This is ELECTRIC WITCHES for Autumn//Winter...but what about Spring? We felt that this theme wasn't fully explored, and now we need YOUR help figuring out just what we should include. We've set up a Pinterest board for just this purpose. In order to start pinning your heart out you'll need to add your name and email to the form linked in below -- we have to enter your information so Pinterest will allow you access to our board. Once you're all set up, start adding images of what Springtime ELECTRIC WITCHES means to you. We are looking for inspiration -- so that means anything from the neon sign at your local bodega to your favorite purse in high school applies. A shape, a color, the emotions a photograph elicits, the way an outfit makes you feel, the certain curvature of a line, the way a room is decorated...all of these things are relevant. Here are some shots of the giant bulletin board we put together while designing ELECTRIC WITCHES Part I. We used words like RAVE, VICTORIAN, ELECTRIC SHEEP, ASSERTIVE, NEON, etc. We pulled all of the images we came across that related to those words. Boy George, Hildur Yeoman's SS11 collection, Victorian portraits, amazing street style shots, inspiring vintage shoes, native tribal wear, you get the idea. The theme of ELECTRIC WITCHES is incredibly broad and can suggest so much. The collection we put together for AW12 is our best yet and we feel that is largely due to how inspired we were by the moodboards we created. So opening this inspirational process up to include all of you? We can't even begin to imagine how incredible the collection will be. Give us all the things ELECTRIC WITCHES makes you think of. Incorporate your personal style and Miista's concept of MEASURED MADNESS -- uncommon juxtaposition of seemingly at odd things. And -- this is important -- keep in mind that this collection is for SPRING. We did Autumn EW and it was dark and moody and perfect. But what happens with Spring? There has to be evidence of a transition. A noticeable recognition of the change of seasons and an incorporation of what that means. Obviously it opens up an entire different style of shoes (no strappy sandals for Fall) but Spring is also lighter, it's a season full of hope and joy. So how do we represent that? This is going to be so much fun for us -- and we hope that it will be for you too. We love that we can involve all of you like this; we say that we design for the Miista lady and now she's literally in on the process itself! We are going to keep this Pinterest board open from now until the end of June, so you'll have three months to periodically add things in. Pinterest has a "Pin It" button that you can just drag into your Bookmarks Bar -- get it here and then you can pin anything you find while browsing the internet. This is a great way to just add things as you go, and you won't have to worry about downloading images, bookmarking pages, etc. At the beginning of July we will sort through the PINSPIRATION board and edit it down. The edited board, along with images that we find along the way, will be the official inspiration of our Spring//Summer 2013 collection. So if you'd like to be a part of it, start pinning ladies!
